WORKS.2021
Collection of original works and concepts from 2021.
I started incorporating more cultural aspects into my art. Most of the cultural aspects used come primarily form my Vietnamese heritage, with influences from others such as Japanese and Chinese traditions, architecture, clothing, and more.
INCANDESCENT SERIES
Incandescent art pieces are part of a series of mythical figures I created myself. Each character has a story of their own but live in the same universe. Though still incomplete, the lore is created on the fly as I draw so it’s a very spontaneous and constantly-evolving project. As with many of my other work, the designs and ideas for the characters are random and unplanned. I just keep a theme going throughout each of my project series to keep it cohesive and organized, since I like to draw things inconsistently and at random. The spontaneity of my process helps me create cool pieces that come to mind in the moment.
MUA BUOM // BUTTERLFY SEASON
The pond is the birthplace of the Ginkgo Butterflies. A mysterious six-armed caretaker guides them as they grow.
THE LANTERN WEAVER
The four-armed sage lives with the ghosts of fallen lotus pads and ginkgo leaves. He weaves the lanterns out of the ghosts for the Ginkgo Butterfly pond.
The garment worn is an áo dài with my modern twist to it (made especially for someone with four arms!) His tattoos are inspired by traditional Japanese tattoos with wind bars to accentuate the floral imagery on his body.
SNAKE SUMMON
A warrior that summons a giant snake.
The garment worn is an áo tac.
